the blood clot scoop

yesterday i learned that i have that buggar mutant gene... it's called factor v leiden, b/c it was first discovered in leiden, holland. down the street from wassenaar. it's common in the DNA of people who are from northern europe, so since my dad's great grandparents were originally from sweden and my mom's family was originally from Scotland, he said it's not uncommon for me or even my brothers to have it. from here on out i'll have to stay off any birth controls that are estrogen based, and when we get preggers, i'll be on an anticoagulant to prevent any blood clots during the pregnancy. the anticoagulant i'll need to take is called lovenox. i gave myself a shot of Lovenox during the first week with the DVT, so that's not too bad, nor painful. stings a bit, and sometimes ya bruise. but nothin' too serious. i never really knew for certain why i developed a blood clot, so it's nice to have this knowledge.

if i learn anything else about it, i'll share the news here.. unless its really nerdy.

i'm off to iron a pair of pants, and take care of a few other things. tomorrow i fly to DC to celebrate eva's graduation w/ her and some of our friends from ISS. sunday is norway's independence day, so we'll be having a little '17th of may - hooray for norway' celebration too. school was cancelled each '17th of may' and we'd meet at the port downtown. our whole school, kindergarten through 12th grade, would walk in the parade through town. we were split up by grade and each grade could make signs, or a banner to carry to separate us from the grade ahead of us.. we'd carry norsky flags, and wear red white n blue, and then afterward, we stuck around to see the 'russ' parade, which was usually pretty loud and involved some nudity.. there won't be any nudity this weekend though.. we'll keep our suits on.

peace out kids.
