new HB residents

first off, we made it! we are together new lil residents of HB. we arrived saturday evening, and spent all day yesterday pretty much vegging. we walked on the beach, went to the farmers market for some groceries.. ate at the 'good day cafe' and found out that it's better to go around 2pm when the lunch crowd has come 'n gone, rather than spot on at noon. we watched our netflix movies, and vegged. but today starts the beginning of another busy week; the movers arrive in less than 1 hour. (i am mostly looking forward to setting up my studio today).

i'm looking forward to this new experience with a mix of enthusiasm, and a pinch of fear. the fear comes in all the unknowns, and a little bit in this feeling of loneliness. still clinging to what i know, which is way back in austin. but i'm praying that the fear won't rule in my decisions over the next few weeks.

about the drive: the time passed faster than we anticipated. we drove a total of 13.5 hours the first day, leaving austin around 7am friday, and arrived in tucson around 8:30pm (austin time). we stayed in my aunt's guest house for the night, and got up late the next morning. grabbed some breakfast and coffee on our way out of tucson, and arrived at LAX about 6:30 saturday evening. got xavi's car at LAX and from there, i followed xavi along the 405 to huntington beach. it was a little strange then knowing that was my new home. part of me wished scotty could beam me back to austin. since then, i've had good moments, ..and less good moments. some of the time i'm really missing austin. and then other moments, i'm reminding myself that i only get one shot and i gotta make the most of all this.

yesterday morning, we hit the beach for a walk and that was pretty cool. the activity and energy there felt like this cool breezy welcome to the west coast, or more specifically, southern california (socal). up and down the shore line surfers sat on their boards like ducks in the water, waiting for the next good wave. kids played in the sand, the beach lined with little colonies of brightly colored umbrellas and blankets, and i was pretty fond of this new sound - the crashing of waves over and over again like a broken record, but in a good broken record way. i got too close to the water and my shoes were soaked in the strong tide that came in. also, we saw a large baby whale that had washed up on the beach. it had a huge slit in its side with guts hanging on the outside of it's body. the lifeguard told us that it's rare to see a baby whale wash up, and more common to have seals and sea lions wash up from attacks by sharks or other preditors out there. to get rid of the body, he said they would drag it out to sea and let the preditors out there feed on it, but didn't say when they'd be making this haul.

anyway, that was sad seeing this big ol' whale calf on the shore. it smelled pretty bad too.

more later.
love, kiki
