despyro coffee and after hours

on my way home from plowboys today i stopped at this coffee shop/sammich house called despyro coffee. i saw it a few days ago when my mom and i were heading back to my aunt and uncle's house. while doctoring up my coffee, i read something called, "We Connect. God and Life". "Cool" i thought, so i asked more about it at the counter, and got a postcard. it's called After Hours and it's a group of people between 25-31 who meet every friday evening at 7:30. I'll be in Kansas City for Debbie and Ryan's wedding this friday, but would really like to check out this After Hours thing the next friday. It's through the calvary chapel of huntington beach. When I lived in sarasota, I went to the calvary chapel there, so i'm crossing my fingers something good could come out of this... I liked the calvary chapel in sarsota..course i was going to school then and was in a very different place in my life.

i had a rocky first few days adjusting to all things new last week, but then toward the end of the week, i was feeling good about living here. and since then, i've liked it. i've had this high about being here, and finding my way around. i'm more motivated than i was just a week ago. what triggered the change of heart? i'm still not sure, but being unpacked and fairely settled into our apartment has a lot to do with it. we're completely out of boxes, and only have a few more things to take care. some stuff we'll sell, and other things don't have a home yet.

last week, we took my mom to this great little dinner on the pier called Ruby's. It sits at the every end of the pier across from main street. Main street is also the location of HB's weekly farmer's market called 'Surf City Nights'. They block off all of main street and turn it into an outdoor market. there are street performers every few blocks, and all kinds of goodies to sample and buy. veggies, flowers, clothing, jewelry, coffee, pies, etc. The five of us had barbeque at a place called Mo's and even though it wasn't as tasty as TX or KC barbeque, it was still pretty good. Surf City Nights is every tuesday night, and i heard that many of the restaurants on main street will cut the prices on their appetizers and drinks.. and for cali, half price anything is worth it! So maybe after we have some friends to hang out it, maybe we can do a happy hour down over there.

well things are looking up.. i am learning my way around HB sans the GPS, and haven't gotten lost yet, so that's cool. i know how to get to the IKEA now, and several of the good shopping areas. i love this place called souplantation, and the good day cafe. now despyro coffee could be promising, and maybe classes at golden west college could work out. i am still learning my way around this area called Cypress which is where my new tailor's shop is located. (i had an emergency meeting with the tailor to get my brides maid dressed altered.)

Golden West College (GWC) is a school near by that my uncle told me about. it's not too far from our apartment and they offer year round courses. i'm going to look closer at the course outline for summer when we get back from the wedding next week. i've skimmed through it, but haven't taken note of any courses that i want to take yet.

adios.
kiki
